our gorgeous god daughter has been home from new york to catch up with family and friends. i wanted to make her something to take back with her and to thank her for bringing me some koigu yarn from purl.
frida. i love her. i love the black and white photos of her especially the ones where she is seemingly unadorned. her costume is plain, her jewellery simple, her hair severe, her beauty deep.
i have long wanted to make a doll and always thought she would be the classic frida with flowers in her hair and lots of colour but i was so drawn to the tonal qualities of the photography - i wanted to somehow capture that.
it had to be a quick project because of course i had left it to the last minute. i did want there to be a simpliciy, a rawness to her. she ended up larger than i thought she would -over a foot high. i grabbed whatever came to light and tea dyed some muslin for her skirt. it was a most enjoyable project and now she is on her way to the big apple.
All I have to say is WOW !!!
