prairie and i popped into one of our favourite stores yesterday - kikki.k. this is one store i have to show great restraint as i want to come away with everything, being the stationery hound that i am. i limited myself to a new shopping list and prairie a black memo block and white pen. i was clearing the table last night and for a moment thought this was the cover page of the block!

a dear friend who goes back a long long way was having a big birthday. what to make her? a bag? possibility. a doll. a 70s surfie girl doll. yes!

about an hour and an half to the coast from our home town is a little beach town called whangamata (fong-ga-mar-tar) everyone called it whanga (wonga) and we still do even though the correct maori pronunciation is fong not wong. it was a sweet sleepy surfie town and we got over there whenever we could. i loved it, still do.

this is how we dressed - shorts from the army surplus store that were white and we dyed, bikinis, jandels (flip flops), a maori kete (woven flax bag) and as many beads and shells that we had wrists and ankles for.
