birthday doll

we were a bit late for the party last night but i was determined to finish the fabric image of the birthday boy. late night photography by michael while i threw myself in the shower - ever so slightly blurry due to haste, no light and a little camera but i love them - he captured him. the b day boy loved his doll right down to the turtle neck on the sweater - the cropped sweater! it could have done with another half inch but knitting the day of the party - i was time challenged.

he sported a pair of brown felt shoes and a hurriedly stitched kilt - by the time i got to that part i had my advertising agency hat on and i was going for it. i would have liked to have added another couple of colours but i didn't want to miss the party either.

 

what was under the kilt i hear you ask! the age old question. well i didn't want to be tasteless so he is wearing a sensible pair of y fronts - pink with a white trim! no photo sorry!

birthday layer cake

done and dusted - the party and me! it was a a lovely night though we couldn't get the projector to work outside so had to cram all the girls inside for the movie but they didn't seem to mind. using this recipe i made two 8" cakes thinking we would have them on the night of her birthday but then prairie said she really wanted a cake at her party so i made two more. it was a lovely simple cake to make, cooked quickly and was moist. i layered all four of them together thinking i would produce something along the lines of this but, well, mine turned out more adobe cottage than ruffles! the girls were wowed with the height and it was the perfect cake to feed the hoards - and there were leftovers for breakfast!

 

 

this morning

they loved their party favours (bag, bunting and pencil) and it was nice to send them home with a gift because their presents for prairie were so thoughtful and generous.

i am about to make a doll for a party tonight so i shall get onto that. first maybe another coffee as this mummy who did 18 hours on the trot yesterday is a little on the tired side!

birthday girl!

todays the day - our girls birthday, our teen. she was up really early (unheard of midweek!) to open her presents. then off to school where at morning tea time we took in a pile o cupcakes so her class could celebrate with her. now i am going to make a layer cake for dessert. tomorrow is the party but i always think the actual day is the special one. happy birthday our darling girl!

 

pencil toppers

using some pencils and felt already in the store cupboard i have just finished these as another party favour. i wrapped a small rectangle of felt around the top of the pencil, with a few drops of glue, and stitched it together. then using back stitch i embroidered the veins on the leaf and attached that to the 'stalk'. then i made the flower using this fabulous tutorial - thank you again mimi! i put a little glue on the top of the pencil then stitched it to the stalk. voila - les fleurs!

prairie is very happy with these and as a couple of the girls can't come there will be leftovers - pour moi!
