i bought michael a book for christmas and in it was directions for non toxic fly paper. being summer here the fly population has increased and though my kitchen has never been cleaner those flying dirt bags are still hanging around. loath to use spray i thought this the perfect solution. i dutifully boiled the water, sugar and golden syrup together, cooled it, coated a strip of brown packing tape and hung it at eye level so we could watch the action. the first one that landed was a baby and i realised that i didn't think i could watch the slow demise. but the baby had a sweet feast and was off. repeat this with many flies. in the end the only thing it was catching was us - we would wonder what we were attached to only to find the strip sticking to our t shirts - help me, help me!
i love having people for dinner, not just for the company and food but for the enforced tidy up! i think i worked so long in advertising that i can only function with a deadline. i unearthed these lantern lights and hung them in the downstairs bathroom/laundry. they looked so pretty at night - i can't wait for it to get dark again!
oh no! that's too bad about the fly strips only catching your family :)
the lanterns are adorable too, by the way!

I had to laugh when I realised you hadnt caught any flies. Paul went and bought those fly strips from the hardware store the other day and hung one by the front door and one in the garage and they are filled in one day! So annoying those little buggers but it does look ugly once they get a lot on them! Your little lights look very pretty around the window.
