i hear we can't say ho ho ho anymore so at the risk of sounding like a gangster i'll say yo yo yo. crafters joke i told prairie and as you will see i have made a truckload of them hence the lengthy gap between posts. we also had a weekend in wellington a couple of weeks ago but i think we will go there another day. for now, this is the story. kay, who own the best little shop in auckland, salvage, called me while a go and asked if i would do her christmas window. i would love to i replied, never having done a window before! we installed it yesterday afternoon and i really don't think i have thought of much else since she asked me. kay normally hangs a drop of fabric at the back of the window so thought i would do the same.
hessian, with an image of a christmas tree filled in with yo yos. i studiously worked away filling a basket with my little round friends. as you can imagine, there weren't nearly enough so i spent 2 days doing nothing but. i hung the hessian on the lounge wall and hot glued, sometimes one at a time or if i had more self control, little batches at a time. they use up a deceptive amount of fabric. luckily michael's cousin put some fabric in the post leftover from some aprons she had been making. i used up all the green gingham - perfect, thank you paula!
finally it started to fill up. the tips of my fingers were all sore from the needle pricking them too many times and a burnt thumb. i bought a new grunty glue gun and did not heed marthas words of wisdom - always keep a bowl of ice at the ready - and regreted this as i plunged my finger right into the middle of the new deposit of glue on the back of the yo yo!
but finally i could put the star on the top which i was so looking forward to doing. of course the vintage buttons i had bought had filed themselves away and i had to race back to kay for more.
and here it is this morning. hard to shoot it without the reflection. i put my treadle machine in there as well as a cute little pushchair i got a while ago from kay. there are some toys in there too and one of the little mousies has already taken its leave.
i can't say i loved every yo yo but i loved dreaming up the tree and how it would look. it was such an amazing oppotunity, i am so happy to be fronting such a beautiful little store whose every piece of fabric, button and length of lace comes with its own story - thank you so much kay!
ITS WONDERFUL!!! Very nicely done!

Since I AM NOT A HO HO HO, I'm not offended!
I read about the Myer store in the Daily Mail. What a bunch of Cr@p! Political Correctness at it's worse. Didn't I forward you the current definition? :-)
Your window display is BEE--UUU--TI--FUL! GREAT JOB GROOVA! Looks like a ton of work. You should start using it as your own tree next year!
Is that a church across the street?

What a gorgeous xmas tree, and I am sure the glue gun burn would have been very sore for quite a while. I think the window looks wonderful and you did such a great job creating all those yo-yos too.
