munk packed his bags and headed for the coast with little friend mousie for a weekend of surf and sun!
what a time they had on the white sandy beach with the perfect sized waves. munk wore with pride his new hat, shell necklace and vintage surf fabric board shorts.
they worked all afternoon on a sandcastle but where is miss mousie? did munk bury her in the sandcastle? perhaps she is hiding in the bucket! naughty boy!
while all these high jinks were going on we too soaked up the beautiful summer days. it feels like the warm weather has only just arrived and we got 3 days in a row! we were a couple of hours from auckland on the east coast at the beginning of the coromandel peninsula in a place called whangamata. i spent all my teenage years holidaying there and even though it is growing it still retains a bit of the magic of the small beach town. and of course i feel like i am 17 again! we surfed and boogie boarded and body surfed. my arms are still a bit stiff! oh and i crocheted the hat for munk right there on the beach and having done that i just had to set up for the photos. so there i am, lying on my tummy with the camera so i can get the sea in the background. at first i felt like a bit of a crazy, there were quite a few people around but i just had to do it! hey its for my blog!
in the cool of the evening with a glass of wine i sat and worked on this creature.
i bought the book last year in nyc in the kinokuniya bookstore and have been wanting to make one of the toys out of the book ever since. before we left i grabbed a pile of blanket pieces i had dyed, some fabric and thread and stuffing and enjoyed the choice that a limited palette gives you.
on the way home we stopped and bought plums which i am about to wave a wand over and turn into jam!
