i meant to post before i left but of course there was so much to do that something had to give and it was my blog. i had even taken photos of the blanket because i did manage to finish it before i went away. and in a flash it feels i'm back but what a week it was! we had never been to nyc before and it delivered. i felt like we were on a movie set all week, so much was famililar. i made my way to purl in soho and bought beautiful fabric and yarn. to tinsel trading which was beautiful and other stores in the garment district where there were stores lined with ribbons and braids from floor to ceiling. i had to remind myself to breathe. ric rac in every size and colour, walls of buttons. lucky for me i had my friend with me who works in the industry designing fabric so i got led around. of course i adored soho with its cobbled streets and little shops and galleries. what i didn't like about soho were some of the residents we encountered one night walking back to the subway from a little mexican restaurant we had been at. michael kept saying, did you see that and pointing and i had no idea what he was going on about until i spied one. a big healthy rat! love them in fabric or illustrated form but no other way (steph, look forward to the photos!) i walked along the middle of the road to try and avoid them. all the bags of trash were out on the sidewalk so i suppose it was their night. thank goodness we had had margaritas, taking the edge off my terror! we saw liv tyler at the park and elmo and donny in the rockefeller plaza, the latter i had my photo taken with (he was my puppy love) am i really confessing this to the universe?
we only scratched the surface of that crazy town and left wanting more.
i got my critters away to morphe II before i left which of course i was doing till the 11th hour, getting labels organised and then labeling them and getting them photographed and packed up took a whole morning. but they have reached their destination in plenty of time for the exhibition!
below are photos of the finished blanket which prairie took with her when i went away. now i want to do another one, for tommy. i bought the mason dixon book in ny and there is a log cabin one knitted in the same fashion, picking up as you go so that might be next but with summer on its way in this neck of the woods it might have to wait.
i'll take some photos of the trim haul but for now i might just go and break into a bit of the candy mountain i brought back!
oh, you KNOW i am looking forward to seeing the photos of a true nyc rodent... still waiting for mine to expire. so glad you had a good time - welcome back.
