and the best sauce ever - molly you were not kidding - i confess to licking the plate clean. we were reading on the guardian that the europeans didn't like cilantro and called it coriander meaning bedbugs because they thought this is what it smelt like. i myself (and of european origins) can never get enough of it so this sauce is my elixir.
humming carol king. this has been tucked away for a long long time. i think i made this before tommy was born - so thats a least 17 years ago - round it off to twenty. scary. blip. two decades. gone! so yesterday i washed and stretched it ready to begin a new life as a pillow. i won't wait another two decades to do that. in fact i should pledge here, publicly that i will, before the month is out have it done. along with this one now i am on the pledge wagon!
just had to make a mosaic so i could bore you senseless with more - its like the preserving!
and prairie's candle making from yesterday - she melted down old candles. its easter monday here and then after that its school holidays for two weeks though there is such a lot of homework to get through i'm not sure how much of a holiday they will have - or me for that matter! oh well, i don't have to get up and make lunches - thats holiday enough!
easter time always makes me think of that time when i first discovered this amazing, fabulous, ever giving, ever inspiring crafting community thanks to a friend who badgered me to look at her sisters blog! i took one look and i was hooked, literally ('ghans to prove it!). it was a while until i felt brave enough to get my own but nearly four years later, boy am i glad i did!
good friday began here with hot cross buns made using nigella's recipe from her book feast - i have done this every year since i got the book - this is batch number five and the first batch i made was one of the first photos i posted on flickr - a nervous newbie.
this year i made eight buns from the recipe instead of the recommended 16 and would continue to do that.
they were light and fruity and well worth the fluffing around
while the buns were proving prairie and i made some beeswax candles. it seemed fitting somehow and the smell was divine. in the jar is the bun glaze.
after all eating the buns we cut branches off the old pepper tree (love those curly bits) and decorated the sideboard in the lounge
whatever you are doing and wherever you are over this time i hope it is restful and peaceful! xxx
